Ivan Turgenev:  A Russian novelist and playwright.  He realistically portrayed the peasentry and the rising gentry in his novels and plays.  Often overshadowed by his contemporaries Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, Turgenev remains one of the underappreciated authors of his time.
